Spartans edge Dons

  • De La Salle High's baseball team pounded out four extra-base hits and got strong relief pitching from Austin Dondanville to edge Amador Valley 4-3 on April 3. The Spartans fell behind in the fourth inning but scored twice in the fifth to go ahead for good. Michael McAdoo went 2 for 3 and drove in three runs to lead the Spartans. Chris Williams and Myles Coston also had a pair of hits each. Williams scored twice.

    DeMers leads Falcons

  • A strong week for the College Park High baseball team was capped with a walk-off win over Deer Valley on April 3. Joe DeMers pitched all eight innings for the Falcons, who scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to beat the Wolverines 3-2. DeMers gave up six hits and one earned run while also driving in the tying run in the eighth. Michael Lopes had the game-winning RBI for College Park, which also beat Alhambra 5-1 a day earlier.

    Broncos win DVAL contest

  • Northgate High's baseball team improved to 5-0 in Diablo Valley Athletic League play with a 8-1 win over Berean Christian on April 3. Brian Wright went 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI while Spencer Johnson pitched well for six innings to earn the win. Berean Christian held the Broncos scoreless until a four-run fifth. The Broncos added four more runs in the sixth to lead 8-0 before the Eagles got on the board.

    Dons go 2-1 at tourney

  • The Acalanes High baseball team closed out the Willie Stargell Classic with wins over Dublin and Antioch after losing its opener to Alameda. Doug Nimura pitched six strong innings against Dublin while Jake Berry launched a second-inning homer. The Dons resume Diablo Foothill Athletic League play at Las Lomas on April 15.

  • Granada at De La Salle, baseball, April 11, 4 p.m. -- The Spartans will host a Granada team that won last year's EBAL title, but has struggled some in league play this season.

  • Campolindo at Dougherty Valley, boys volleyball, April 11, 6 p.m. -- Though it's one of the first DFAL matches of the year, it could go a long way toward deciding the eventual champion. Both teams have rolled through nonleague play and look like contenders.

  • Dougherty Valley at Alhambra, softball, April 15, 4 p.m. -- Can the Wildcats give the defending champions some trouble? Both teams fared well in DFAL play so far.

  • Clayton Valley Charter at Northgate, baseball, April 15, 4 p.m. -- Two of the top teams in the Diablo Valley Athletic League square off in a game with league title implications.

  • Taylor Blair, Carondelet softball -- Blair led the Cougars to a 4-3 win over Benicia at the Livermore Stampede, going 2 for 3 with a run and RBI while also pitching a complete game.

  • Garrett Blatter, Clayton Valley Charter boys volleyball -- Blatter had 11 kills, 14 assists and five digs to help the Eagles top Concord in three games April 3.

  • Anaya Alexander, Las Lomas track and field -- The sophomore took fourth in the 400 meters at the Stanford Invitational on April 5 with a time of 57.55 seconds.

  • Natalie Baldacci, Las Lomas girls lacrosse -- Baldacci scored five goals to lead the Knights past Dublin 11-8 in DFAL action.

  • Spencer Johnson, Northgate baseball -- Johnson's strong start on the mound helped the Broncos to an 8-1 win over Berean Christian on April 3. He allowed just one hit and struck out eight while pitching six innings.

  • Ben Krauth, Diablo Valley College baseball -- Krauth pitched a complete game with 15 strikeouts as the Vikings edged Sacramento City 1-0. Krauth scattered three hits.

  • Michael Lopes, College Park baseball -- The senior had the game-winning RBI as the Falcons earned a 3-2 walk-off win over Deer Valley on April 3.
