The Mt. Diablo Education Association held its second annual "Academy Awards" event May 15, honoring all stakeholders in the school district. Some 300 parents, students, administrators, educators and classified employees attended the presentation at Centre Concord, above, which recognized education community teamwork, with awards going to many of those in attendance. The event also served as a fundraiser for elementary arts program in the district. Teacher Stephen Slater of Wren Avenue Elementary School in Concord accepts his award as a representative for the Mt. Diablo Unified School District Teacher of the Year. Also recognized as a Teacher of the Year representative was Kathleen Young, right, of Highlands Elementary in Concord.
