Cougars shine at NCS meet
Carondelet High's Maddie Murphy, right, gets a hug from Amador Valley's Iris Brand at the finish of their 100-yard freestyle final at the North Coast Section swimming championships on May 17. Murphy beat out Brand by 0.10 seconds to win the event in 50.19. Murphy was also second in the 100 butterfly. Carondelet finished third as a team, getting a first-place finish from Samantha Coloma in the 100 backstroke and winning the 400 freestyle relay. Carondelet's 200 freestyle relay team had set a record in the NCS preliminaries and went faster in the final, but had to settle for second place against new record holder San Ramon Valley.
