De La Salle wins NCS Division I lacrosse title The De La Salle lacrosse team won its fourth NCS championship May 24, dominating the third quarter to help down host and No. 2 seed San Ramon Valley 11-5 in the Division I final. De La Salle (13-7) opened up a 3-0 lead in the second quarter, courtesy of two Brook Rideau goals, and took over with five goals in the third quarter, including two from midfielder George Waidelich. Attackman Stephen Wilm led De La Salle with two goals and a game-high five assists. Spartans goalie Johnny Perlite was sensational, picking up eight saves overall and thwarting the Wolves' comeback in the fourth quarter. De La Salle's four title matches it with Monte Vista for the most in the section. The Spartans' last championship game in 2010.

College Park starts strong in NCS playoffs The College Park High baseball team breezed through the first two rounds of the North Coast Section Division II playoffs to advance to the semifinals for the second straight year. The Falcons, seeded second, beat No. 15 Cardinal Newman 8-1 on May 21 and No. 10 Petaluma 6-0 on May 24. Against Petaluma, pitcher Joe DeMers threw a two-hitter, struck out eight and did not allow a walk. Nick Oar drove in two runs for the Falcons, who advanced to the semifinals to play against No. 11 Montgomery-Santa Rosa on May 28, after this newspaper went to press. Eighth-seeded Washington-Fremont played No. 5 Marin Catholic-Kentfield in the other semifinal.

Las Lomas girls ready for Meet of Champions The Las Lomas girls track and field team finished seventh at the NCS Tri-Valley Area championships on May 24, but have several athletes advancing to the Meet of Champions May 30-31 at Cal's Edwards Stadium. Chloe Hansel took second in the 1,600 meters in 4:54.50 and was fifth in the 3,200 (11:14.66). Anaya Alexander was second in the 400 (56.90), Cassie Butler was second in the discus (117 feet, 8 inches) and Carolina Trimble was sixth in the pole vault (10 feet).

On Deck NCS Meet of Champions, track and field, May 30-31 -- The best track and field athletes from across the section will gather at Cal's Edwards Stadium for the NCS championships. The top three athletes in each event will automatically advance to compete in the CIF Championships next week in Clovis.
Stars of the week Johnny Perlite, De La Salle lacrosse -- Perline finished with eight saves, including many in the fourth quarter, to help the Spartans preserve a 11-5 win over San Ramon Valley in the NCS Division I championship match. Erin Enke, Alhambra softball -- Enke went 2 for 2 and finished with three RBIs to help the Bulldogs beat Rancho Cotate 14-2. She also pitched three shutout innings, allowing just one hit. Will Brueckner, Acalanes boys golf -- Brueckner won the NCGA/CIF Championships on May 19, shooting a 6-under 66 at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville. Chloe Hansel, Las Lomas girls track and field -- Hansel took second in the 1,600 meters in 4:54.50 and was fifth in the 3,200 (11:14.66) at the NCS Tri-Valley Area championships. Chloe Landry, Acalanes girls lacrosse -- Landry, a four-year varsity player headed to Cal, scored seven goals to lead the Dons to a 21-9 win over Piedmont in the NCS Division II championship match.
