The July 12 supermoon -- a full moon which occurs when the moon's orbit is closest to the Earth -- rises over Mount Diablo and the Concord skyline, as seen from Dinosaur Hill Park in Pleasant Hill. A supermoon appears brighter and closer than a typical full moon. The next chance to see a supermoon will be Aug. 10 and Sept. 9.
