Thomas E. Mails artist exhibit at the Lynn House Gallery
ANTIOCH -- The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch will showcase the talents of the late Thomas E. Mails, who called Antioch home during his youth until after World War II.
Mail s spiritual awakening gave him the insight needed to see the wonder and beauty of the Indian life-way, the center and core of which is man s relationship to creation, and to the Creator and life-giver. It has been more than 20 years since Mails began work on his first Indian book, "The Mystic Warrior of the Plains. Profusely illustrated, it has become a standard reference book the world over for those interested in the culture of the Plains Indians.
A free artist reception will be held at 2 to 4 p.m. July 14 at the Lynn House Gallery, 809 W. First St. The exhibit is open 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays through July 28.
Saturday concert nights in downtown Antioch
ANTIOCH -- The East Contra Costa city is again holding free concerts from 6 to 8 p.m. in July and August at Waldie Plaza on Second and I streets. The concert are set for 6 to 8 p.m. On tap Saturday is the easy-listening group "Spindrift California.
The lineup also includes: Latin, jazz and old-school group The PhD s on July 14; blues and R&B group

Celebration of Art exhibit continues
ANTIOCH -- Celebration of Art, co-hosted by the The Arts & Cultural Foundation of Antioch and the Antioch Historical Society, continues at the Antioch Historical Society Museum at 1500 W. Fourth St.
The eighth annual nonjuried exhibit with no required theme features some 50 local artists. The exhibit runs 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesdays and Saturdays through July 25. Admission is free.

Starry Nights Concert Series continues Friday
BRENTWOOD -- The city of Brentwood s concert series continues on Friday with David Correa and Cascada, featuring Latin guitar and world music.
The free music will be at the renovated City Park at 710 Second St. beginning at 7 p.m. Ample parking is available in the parking garage at 150 City Park Way. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and a picnic basket.

'Snow White auditions scheduled in Antioch
ANTIOCH -- Antioch Children s Theatre will hold auditions for "Snow White 7 to 9 p.m. July 9 and 10 at the Virginia J. Calisesi Studio Theatre, 512 W. Second St., Antioch.
Frank Ballesteros directs this popular adaptation by Tim Kelley. Auditions are open to actors ages 7 and older.
Rehearsals will be 4 to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays. Performances will be Aug. 10, 11, 12, 17, 18 and 19.

PACO calls for artists, volunteers for art show
PITTSBURG -- The Pittsburg Arts Collaborative is looking for local artists and volunteers in preparation for its annual Summer Art Exhibit set to open on Aug. 25 at the Impulse Gallery, 329 Railroad Ave.,
Submission for artwork is set for Aug. 18 and 19 at the Impulse Gallery. However, much work needs to be done in preparation for that date and PACO is looking for volunteers to assist.
Each artist may submit three pieces and there is a $35-per-artist entry fee.
The opening artists reception will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 25 and features cash awards, live music, hors d oeuvres and refreshments.
Cal Pine Corporation and the Dean & Margaret Lesher Foundation have joined Pacific Community Services Inc. in its ongoing support of for PACO s regional community arts projects.
Hannah Nicole Vineyards concert series continues
BRENTWOOD -- Hannah Nicole Vineyards presents Music in the Vineyards concert series July 20 at 6700 Balfour Road.
