OAKLAND -- A 24-year-old Oakland man pleaded not guilty Monday to a murder charge for the shooting death of a 19-year-old San Leandro woman at an East Oakland motel in July.
Andre Moncrease is accused of killing Tianna Leui, who was fatally shot at about 3 a.m. on July 12 at the Starlite Motel at 10000 MacArthur Blvd.
The case was unsolved for two months but Moncrease was arrested at about 6:15 p.m. on Sept. 14.
Moncrease is also accused of being a felon in possession of a firearm and of having four prior felony convictions, which could increase his state prison term if he's convicted.
According to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, Moncrease was convicted in Contra Costa County on Oct. 1, 2008, for possession for sale of cocaine base and possession of a controlled substance and on Feb. 17, 2009, of possession for sale of cocaine base.
Prosecutors say Moncrease also was convicted of possession for sale of cocaine base in Alameda County on May 17, 2011.
Moncrease, who appeared in court with a white patch over his right eye, is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 13 for a preliminary hearing.
