Connor Everton, 16, an Acalanes high school junior, recently received a gold and bronze medal in his first international climbing competition -- the PanAmerican Youth Championship in Santiago, Chile. Everton was awarded the gold medal for the "Male Youth A Lead" event and the bronze medal for overall champion in the Youth A division.
The International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) invites the top five ranked athletes from each country to compete in each age group. Everton started climbing competitively in 2010 and is part of a training and climbing team called Zero Gravity.

In a competitive LMYA soccer league, the final standings were determined on the last day of the season with three teams in contention, Scotland, Brazil and Ireland. In the final game, Ireland overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat Brazil, 2-1, to clinch the first place title. Team Ireland finished the season undefeated with a final record of 9-0-1.
Team Ireland combined excellent talent and team chemistry to play many different players in different positions, with every player contributing at least one goal. Ireland also led the league in goals (40) and defensively they allowed the fewest goals (4). Leading scorers for Ireland were Nick Karr (10) and Ian Archer (10), Archer also led the team in assists (11). Team Ireland also had four All-Stars selections this season: Nick Karr, Ian Archer, Kieran Keliher-Burke, and Dean Ruskin.
