Wolves topple Hayward

  • Sarah Luther led the balanced San Ramon Valley High girls basketball team with 12 points in a 58-42 win over Hayward in the Lady Hornet Classic on Dec. 7 The Wolves took second in the tournament after a loss to host Alameda in the championship on Dec. 8.

  • The Ohlone College men's basketball team beat Diablo Valley 77-61 in the semifinals of the San Jose tournament on Dec. 7. Former Monte Vista star Mike Harris led the Vikings with a game-high 17 points.

    Vikings take second in own tournament

  • All-tournament selection Robert Ferrero had a team-high 15 points, but the Valley Christian High boys basketball team lost 51-46 to Bentley in the championship game of the Valley Christian Tournament on Dec. 8.

    Mack leads Amador Valley

  • Sophomore guard Ariah Mack had a game-high 17 points as the Amador Valley High girls basketball team beat California School for the Deaf 63-32 on Dec. 8 in the Amador Basketball Classic. The Dons (4-0) had a 3-0 mark in the tournament, also with wins over Leigh-San Jose (66-48) and American (44-21).

    Matadors take fifth

  • The Granada High boys basketball team took fifth place at Granada Holiday Invitational (Dec. 6-8) with a 2-1 record. In a 90-87 win in overtime against Kimball-Tracy, Matadors sophomore Kameron Johnson had a team-high 23 points. Kory Kivijarhu had 18 points, and Jake Salinas had 17.

    Dons win consolation

  • The Amador Valley High boys basketball team (5-1) topped Las Lomas 62-52 on Dec. 8 in the consolation final of the Amador Basketball Classic. The Dons turned up the defensive intensity during an 11-4 run in the third quarter. Senior guard Mat Macapagal had a game-high 13 points, and Stokley Chaffee had seven points and five rebounds.

  • Don Nelson Classic, boys basketball, Dec. 13, 8 p.m. -- The high-powered Dublin High boys basketball team will battle California in the first round of the three-day tournament at the Dublin High Sports Complex.

  • Haris Arghandiwal, San Ramon Valley boys basketball -- Argandiwal was named to the all-tournament team after scoring 21 points in a 63-50 loss to unbeaten Sacred Heart Cathedral in the championship game of the John May Classic on Dec. 7.

  • Kamar Reese, Dougherty Valley boys basketball -- Reese scored a game-high 21 points as the Wildcats beat Pittsburg 54-37 in the third place game of the John May Classic on Dec. 7.

  • Brielle Preece, Granada girls basketball -- Preece, a junior, had a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds in a 45-38 win over Enochs on Dec. 7 in the first round of the Crusader Classic.
