VALLEJO -- Riders of SolTrans Route 78 will find a new schedule and other changes unveiled on Sunday, Feb. 3, the transportation agency has announced.

Among the changes, designed to save on costs of running the line, are elimination of the Vallejo Ferry Terminal stop, and runs before 6 a.m.

Route 78 currently runs from the Vallejo Ferry Terminal to the Walnut Creek BART station.

Under the new changes, the buses will originate at the Vallejo Transit Center in downtown Vallejo and will include additional later evening service.

Some of the buses will still stop at the Curtola Park and Ride, but they will not pick up or drop off passengers before 9:30 a.m.

Before approving the changes, SolTrans staff sought input from riders and others.

SolTrans has intended to modify the Route 78, which takes Vallejo and Benicia riders to Pleasant Hill and Walnut Creek BART stations because the bus route is barely covering all its operating expenses.

To continue receiving government transportation funding to pay for the line, some 20 percent of the funding must come from fares, SolTrans officials have said.
