An Antioch man suspected of robbing a Fairfield retail store was arrested Monday evening after being confronted by loss prevention officers outside Solano Town Center mall, officials said.
Rudolpho James, 19, and another unidentified black male reportedly entered the Macy's store in the mall where James allegedly stole several items before trying to exit the business, said Fairfield police Sgt. Dan Marshall.
Outside, James was confronted by loss prevention officers, who ultimately tackled him, Marshall said. The second male, who police do not believe had any involvement in the initial theft, fled from the area.
After tackling James, who had been holding his arm by his waist, the loss prevention officers realized that he was holding a handgun, Marshall said. James was disarmed by security and handcuffed until police arrived and were able to take him and the gun, which they later determined was loaded, into custody.
Because of James' struggle with loss prevention officers and possession of the handgun, what would have otherwise been a theft charge was elevated to robbery, Marshall said.
He was booked into Solano County Jail
