MARTINEZ -- The Contra Costa District Attorney's Office is offering free software aimed at protecting children from online predators.

The software, called "Computer Cop," enables parents to monitor their children's' online activities by scanning photos, videos and emails for inappropriate or threatening content. The program was paid for with assets seized from drug dealers.

According to the District Attorney's Office, one-third of 10- to 17-year-olds have unwanted exposure to sexual material online. Four percent receive online sexual solicitations.

Five hundred copies of the software will be made available. It can be picked up at any Contra Costa library or any of the District Attorney's three regional offices: 900 Ward St. in Martinez; 10 Douglas, Suite 130 in Martinez; and 100 37th St., Room 200, in Richmond.
