ANTIOCH -- A man was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon near Joe's Liquor & Food in what is believed to be the city's first homicide of the year, police said.

Around 4:32 p.m., officers responded to the store, located at 1911 D Street, for calls of shots fired and a victim down on the ground, according to a statement from Antioch police Lt. Robin Kelley. When police arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Kelley added.

Police did not immediately release the man's name, age or city of residence. No other injuries were reported and no suspect information was available.
