BERKELEY -- A local church is gearing up for a talent show on Saturday and is giving away $1,500 in prizes.
So Berkley Has Talent Community Talent Show will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Civic Center Park downtown on Aug. 25. There is a $500 prize in each of three age categories: 5 to 12; 13 to 17 and 18 to 30.
Covenant Worship Center is sponsoring the show prizes and a social worker guild within the church is organizing it, said Sonja Dixon, one of the show's organizers.
Dixon, a social worker in Contra Costa County, said the show in the park is also a chance for those in need to get signed up for government sponsored social services. Tables with representatives from various agencies will be on hand during the show, she said.
Auditions were held Aug. 11 and Aug. 19, but Dixon said late comers are allowed and can send a link to their talent recorded on video for consideration. Dixon's email is cwcsocialworkerguild@gmail.com.
