OAKLAND -- An employee killed Thursday at an East Oakland plastics company when he was crushed by a forklift was identified Friday by the Alameda County Coroner's Office as 34-year-old Eduardo Martinez Barajas.
Barajas, an Oakland resident, had worked at Super Links Plastics Inc. on 92nd Avenue for almost 20 years, company vice president Doug Spitzer said Friday. He said Martinez Barajas was a forklift operator.
Spitzer said the company was still reeling from Barajas' death. "It's a family here. It's a small company," Spitzer said.
He said Martinez Barajas was married and had two children.
Authorities said the fatality happened at 9:43 a.m. Thursday while one employee was driving a forklift to lift and service a second forklift. Because of the extra weight, the forklift in use fell over, pinning and crushing Martinez Barajas, who was standing on the ground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The death is being investigated by Oakland police and Cal-OSHA. A finding is expected in two to four months.
