    Bancroft Elementary School Junior Girl Scout Troop No. 31161 earned their Bronze award in June for their "Books for the Barrios" project.

    Reagan Ruff, Emily Pierceall, Mahalakshmi Parakala, Madalyn Stewart and Bridie Stewart, along with Skye Mingming, a "Juliette" affiliated with Troop 31161, collected books, children's clothing and stuffed animals.

    Books for the Barrios is a not-for-profit California corporation run by volunteers whose primary mission is to collect English school reading books and educational learning aids in the United States and deliver them to remote barrio public schools throughout the Philippines.

    The girls also donated $100 of their cookie sale profits to the organization.

    Community Service Days at Tony La Russa's Animal Rescue Foundation are offered monthly to students in grades 6 through 12 to help achieve community service credits.

    Projects include work to to benefit ARF's shelter animals, such as creating enrichment items for ARF animals, baking dog treats, landscaping and animal care cleaning tasks.
