MORAGA -- A full force of officers was out early Tuesday afternoon searching for a man who fled the scene of a car burglary near a regional trail.

Officers from the East Bay Regional Park District and the Lafayette, Orinda and Moraga police departments scoured the area near St. Mary's Road in Moraga starting about 11:45 a.m. after a parks officer noticed a truck in a nearby parking lot had been broken into, said park district police Lt. John King.

King said the truck was parked next to a car associated with numerous vehicle burglaries in the area.

As the park district police officer was investigating, an officer from the Moraga Police Department then drove up and asked if the officer had seen a man, believed to be the theft suspect, running from the parking lot.

Several officers, a helicopter and a police dog joined the search, which was called off after about 30 minutes. Officers are still seeking the suspect, but are not yet releasing his name.

The victim of the car burglary near the trail said her purse and other items had been taken from the car.
