DANVILLE -- The planning commission will hold its third public hearing Tuesday evening on the town's controversial update of its general plan.

The meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at the Danville Community Center, 420 Front St.

The town is conducting a series of six meetings to take public comments and discuss the draft 2030 general plan and the town's sustainability action plan before the Town Council votes on approval, possibly in March.

The previous two meetings were packed with hundreds of residents opposed to changes to the general plan, which many said will threaten Danville's small-town character.

One issue of contention is rezoning to allow developers to cluster homes on agricultural land. Another is an increase in the amount of land zoned for high-density, affordable housing as required by state mandates.

On Tuesday, the public will be allowed to comment, town staff and planning commissioners will discuss comments from previous meetings and the town's responses to them, and the staff will give a presentation on 14 housing opportunity sites in the town that are under review.
