LIVERMORE -- It was so cold it hurt!

About 70 hyper-brave people turned out Saturday to test themselves against the elements in the unheated pool at the Robert Livermore Community Center.

Taking part in the eighth annual Polar Bear Slide, a group of adults and kids lined up for a chance to swoop down the center's 22-foot water slide and into the 42-degree water of the pool.

There were plenty of thrills and chills as the polar bear wannabes popped into the brink and made their way to dry land as fast as they could. There was hot cocoa to welcome the swimmers ashore.

The free event is sponsored by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District.
