MARTINEZ -- Eight people have applied to fill a Martinez school board vacancy, according to the school district.

On Monday, the board will interview the candidates and appoint one of them to finish the two years left on Vicki Gordon's term. Gordon, a longtime school board member, resigned last month after winning a seat on the Contra Costa Community College District governing board in November.

Monday's board meeting is open to the public and begins at 5 p.m. at the school district office, 921 Susana St.

Dena Betti and former board member Ron Skrehot, who lost their bids for a school board seat in November, are among the applicants. Deidre Siguenza, who ran unsuccessfully for the board in 2010, also is in the running. The other applicants are William BrakeVille, Wesley Brinkman, Evelyn Centeno, Catherine Greerty and Connie Miller. Centeno pulled papers to run for Martinez City Clerk last year, but she ultimately didn't file.
