DANVILLE -- Danville American Legion Post 246 will host a constitutional speech contest for San Ramon Valley, Monte Vista and Dougherty Valley high schools students.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 in the event room at the Danville Veterans' Memorial Building, 400 Hartz Ave.
Contestants will give speeches to promote a better understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the attendant duties and responsibilities of citizenship. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The winner will receive $150.
The winner will go on to compete in the American Legion District 9 contest at 1 p.m. Feb 9. to be held at the same location. The winner of the District 9 contest will then compete in the Area 2 contest in Pacifica on Feb 17.
