PLEASANT HILL -- Police from Pleasant Hill and Concord worked together Thursday morning to locate and arrest a suspected burglar who may have also been armed.

Marco Antonio Diaz, 20, of Concord was arrested after a brief vehicle pursuit and an extended search in a Pleasant Hill neighborhood, police said. He allegedly smashed the window of a car on Geary Road at Bonnie Lane just after 9 a.m. and stole a mobile phone and a driver's identification.

Police identified him as the burglar during their investigation, but would not say what led them to him. He was spotted driving with a passenger at the intersection of Monument Boulevard and Oak Grove a short time later, but fled when police attempted to pull him over.

A short vehicle pursuit ended when Diaz pulled into a dead-end street off Mohr Lane in Pleasant Hill. Both people then jumped out of the car and fled on foot.

Police cordoned off the area, found Diaz and arrested him. The passenger was not located or identified.

Police also recovered a handgun with the serial number removed during the search, but were not certain if the weapon was related to Diaz's arrest. Diaz was booked into County Jail in Martinez on $95,000 bail on suspicion of burglary, evading, possession of stolen property and possession of controlled substances.
