OAKLAND -- A proposal to lower AC Transit's basic bus fare from $2.10 to $2 this summer -- instead of raising them as planned -- will be discussed in a transit district board workshop at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The public workshop is at AC Transit headquarters 10th floor conference room, 1600 Franklin Ave., Oakland
In mid-2011, the financially struggling AC Transit system raised its basic bus fare from $2 to $2.10, and also endorsed a long-term plan to boost the fare again to $2.25 this summer.
This month, however, bus system administrators proposed a reversal of course aimed at attracting more passengers and revenues. District administrators proposed lowering the bus fee and improving service on key bus routes.
The board workshop will not be webcast at usual because board members won't be meeting in their usual room.
AC Transit supplies bus service to 13 cities and surrounding areas in Alameda County and western Contra Costa County.
