ANTIOCH -- Police said people inside two cars engaged in a rolling gunbattle Tuesday morning only a few blocks from an elementary school.

Officers responding to the reported shooting could not find anyone who had been struck by gunfire, according to Antioch police Lt. Tammany Brooks.

The shooting was reported about 9:52 a.m. near the intersection of Lone Tree Way and Vista Grande, Brooks said. Carmen Dragon Elementary School sits about four blocks north of the intersection.

Witnesses told police that people in two cars were shooting at each other, but the vehicles were both gone when officers arrived, Brooks said. Investigators did find empty shell casings and broken glass at the scene.

Police did not identify any suspects or the vehicles used in the shooting. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 925-779-6939. Tips can also be texted to 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword ANTIOCH.
