Two suspects were arrested in San Rafael early Wednesday after police stopped their car for high beams and found 3 pounds of marijuana in the trunk.
Jessica Ann Rose, 20, of Antioch and Chistova Antonio Topete, 20, of Richmond were booked into Marin County Jail on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sale and related drug violations.
Rose was also booked on suspicion of bringing drugs into the jail. The jail staff discovered suspected Ecstasy pills in her bra while searching her during the booking process, said California Highway Patrol Officer Andrew Barclay.
The investigation began at about 1 a.m. Wednesday on southbound Highway 101 in San Rafael, where CHP officers saw a 2002 Saturn sedan driving with its high beams on.
Police initiated a traffic stop, and the Saturn pulled off the highway in central San Rafael, but then it got back on the freeway and continued. It stopped again near the ramp to Interstate 580.
Police approached the car and smelled marijuana. One of the occupants handed over a small bag of marijuana and said it was for medical purposes, but was unable to produce a medical marijuana card.
The CHP then searched the vehicle and found the marijuana in the trunk, Barclay said. Rose was driving the car and Topete was the passenger.
