Former 49ers center Jeremy Newberry, a 1994 graduate of Antioch High School, will not be the keynote speaker at Saturday's 2013 Contra Costa Youth Summit due to an illness in his family.

Stepping in to take Newberry's place is Pittsburg resident and youth advocate Vernon Williams III, head of the The Williams Group, a nonprofit that works to curtail gang activity throughout West and East Contra Costa.

Williams was a promising high-school baseball player who received a college scholarship and was drafted by the New York Yankees. But he got into trouble and went to prison at age 19 before turning his life around, earning a college degree and becoming an effective advocate and mentor for Bay Area youth.

The summit that will take place from 8 a.m to 3 p.m. at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg.
