Contra Costa County is taking applications for 180 new health exchange call center agent positions at the recently approved Concord facility.
The agents will help eligible Californians enroll in health care insurance under the federal Affordable Care Act set to go into effect Jan. 1. The annual salary is $31,877 to $45,040 a year, depending on experience.
Apply online at www.cccounty.us/hr, click on the "job opportunities" link, scroll down and select exchange customer service agent I or II. Applications will be taken until April 5.
Interested candidates may also visit any of the four EASTBAY Works job centers, in Antioch, Brentwood, Concord and San Pablo. Counselors at RichmondWORKS will help people apply online or supply a paper application.
To be located at 2500 Bates Ave. in Concord off Highway 4 and Port Chicago Highway, the center will take calls 59 hours a week, Monday through Saturday, except during open enrollment, when it will operate 72 hours a week.
Prospective agents must have a driver's license and a high school diploma or equivalency.
Agent I candidates must also have at least one year of office-support experience and working with the public; have one year of experience processing loan, benefit or social services documents; or have worked a year at a call center.
Agent II candidates, in addition to other requirements, must have six months experience or the equivalent of an Eligibility Worker I in Contra Costa County; or one year experience or the equivalent in public assistance eligibility determination in a county welfare department.
The schedule calls for the county to test staff, hardware and software starting July 1. Enrollment starts Oct. 1.
Covered California is contracting with Contra Costa to operate the call center with county employees for at least three years.
The state is also opening call centers in Rancho Cordova and Fresno. Whether one or all call centers remain open beyond three years will depend on demand.
