PLEASANTON -- The Granada High baseball team continues to boast confidence.

The Matadors, ranked No. 1 in the Bay Area News Group East Bay poll, had more reasons to feel good on Wednesday when they remained undefeated with a 5-0 East Bay Athletic League win over No. 2 Amador Valley.

"We beat a very good team today," Granada coach Corrigan Willis said. "We came out loose and confident. These guys show up. They show up game day and we make the plays we need to make and got guys on the hill who are flat-out dealing and competing."

Senior right-hander Jacob Payne threw six scoreless innings and Granada (13-0, 3-0 EBAL) scored five times in the first three innings to take control against the host Dons.

"It's been fun," Payne said of the team's winning streak. "We've gained a ton of confidence and we're just having fun with it."

Payne lowered his already minuscule ERA to 0.18, as he's allowed only one earned run in 40 innings.

On Wednesday, he struck out seven and allowed four hits and finished the game strong, striking out the side in the sixth inning.

"He gets stronger as the game goes along, which is a good sign for a max effort guy," Willis said.

The Matadors had baserunners all afternoon as they picked up nine hits and drew seven walks. Eight of their nine starters collected at least one hit.

After stranding a pair of runners on base in the first inning, Granada scored in the second when Jordan Thraikill drew a bases-loaded walk. The bases remained loaded for leading hitter Ryan Kirby, but he grounded out to end the inning.

The Matadors took full control of the game in the third inning. Hits by Craig Woolson and walks to Miles Mastrobuoni loaded the bases and Dan Whitney delivered a two-run single. Ryan Dearborn followed with an RBI single and Matt Richards added an RBI groundout that made it 5-0.

Payne took over from there and shut down the Dons, who only had two runners reach as far as third base.
