DANVILLE -- The Deer Valley High boys volleyball team apparently didn't like the taste that losing their own tournament left in their collective mouths. Because since they failed to reach the finals of their own event four weeks ago, the Wolverines haven't been beat.

Friday night, the Wolverines won the San Ramon Valley Tournament, beating Foothill 25-15, 29-27 in the championship match.

"That was a good, fun match," Deer Valley coach Lou Panzella said. "I knew the second game would be nothing like the first. They are a really good team and in that second game we were able to just make a few more plays."

The Falcons (20-5) were also looking to wipe away the memory of failing to reach the finals at their own tournament a week ago, but Deer Valley (26-1) added to its trophy collection after it captured the Dougherty Valley Tournament on March 23 and the Granite Bay Invitational on April 6.

Since they lost to College Park at its own tournament on March 16, Deer Valley has won 20 straight matches, including four Friday night.

The combination of setter Derrico Kwa to outside hitter Jordan Ewert was too much for Foothill, as Kwa set up Ewert with 15 kills. The Falcons had their own explosive setter/hitter tandem as Matt Lee assisted Cory Frederickson seven times.

In the silver and bronze pools, Berean Christian and Monte Vista were crowned champions, respectively, as the Eagles' only loss was a narrow one to Deer Valley in three close games.
