DUBLIN — Caltrans will hold a community meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday to brief the public about plans for an express toll lane on 13.7 miles of westbound Interstate 580 in Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore.

The meeting is at the regional meeting room at the Dublin Civic Center, 100 Civic Plaza.

Caltrans and the Alameda County Transportation Authority have begun construction of a westbound I-580 carpool lane that would be converted to an express toll lane in 2015. An eastbound I-580 toll lane will open the same year.

The express toll lanes would be free to carpools, buses and motorcycles, while solo drivers would pay toll to use it.

State and regional transportation agencies plan a large network of express toll lanes in the Bay Area to reduce congestion and speed traffic flows.
