MARTINEZ -- A 20-year-old Brentwood woman has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated in connection with a Highway 24 collision that killed a Pittsburg man last week.
The California Highway Patrol says Annelise McKay was driving drunk in the wrong direction of the highway in Lafayette early May 3 and collided head on with 51-year-old Alvaro Santos Cruz. He died at the scene, and McKay suffered minor injuries.
Authorities have not yet revealed McKay's suspected blood-alcohol level at the time of the accident.
McKay pleaded not guilty to the charges Wednesday. Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for May 17.
McKay remained in jail custody Friday in lieu of $100,000 bail, according to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office.
