PLEASANTON -- A woman was struck and killed while riding her bicycle along Foothill Road Sunday afternoon.

Police said the woman, who has not been identified, was riding with her husband about a quarter mile south of Golden Eagle Way around 1:08 p.m. when a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Pleasanton man struck both of them, police said in a news release.

The collision sent the woman flying from her bike, and despite paramedics' best efforts she was pronounced deceased at the scene, police said.

The husband was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene.

Foothill Road between Castlewood and Golden Eagle drives was reopened to traffic about 8:15 p.m. Sunday.
