BENICIA -- A three-alarm grass fire is 80 percent contained after spreading roughly 125 acres near an industrial park, an official with the Benicia Fire Department said Tuesday.
No injuries have been reported and only one structure, possibly abandoned, was damaged.
According to division chief K.C. Smith, crews responded to reports of a fire at 4501 block of California Court around 2:15 p.m.
As the first units arrived, firefighters observed a few acres on fire moving rapidly toward Reservoir Road, according to a press release from the department. The fire spread quickly due to the strong winds and dry fuel and additional resources from throughout Solano County were called in for assistance. Cal Fire provided a helicopter, air tankers and hand crews to help fight the fire. Crews from Contra Costa, Napa and Marin counties also assisted in fighting the blaze, Smith added.
Crews are hoping to have full containment by Wednesday morning, Smith said, and will be working throughout the night. According to the department's press release, one structure was involved in the fire, but it was unclear as of 9 p.m. if it was abandoned.
