BAY POINT -- Bay Point's diversity and community resources will be celebrated at a Unity in Community event set for this Saturday at the Ambrose Community Center.
The 10th annual event serves as a way to get the word out about various community services while promoting positive family activities. It's a place for people to gather, spend some time together and munch on some free food.
"It's really about bringing together everybody in the community," event coordinator Renee Day-Roa said
There will be a free lunch of turkey tacos, cookies and fresh strawberries, and a healthy cooking demonstration along with local entertainment, she said.
People will be staffing booths to provide information and assistance with issues involving parenting, health, nutrition, safety and social services. A mobile van will provide on-site dental screenings.
"We are really excited this year because there will be a food truck that will pass out fresh vegetables and fruits," said Day-Roa.
There will also be children's activities and a karate exhibition.
"We will have contests for kids, jumping rope and Hula hoops," she said.
Day-Roa said it is fitting that the event is held at the Ambrose Community Center, given that the place is home to so many recreational activities throughout the year.
"There are a lot of events held there that people don't know about," she said. "It reaches across all ages from (babies) to the elderly," she said.
