MARTINEZ -- Eighteen months after being convicted of second-degree murder, a Pinole man was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for killing a stranger in a San Pablo.
Adeajai Chokie Johnson, 31, fatally shot 27-year-old San Pablo resident Eduardo Flores on Jan. 31, 2010 in a 7-Eleven parking lot.
Prosecutors say Johnson shot Flores in the back four times when he fired 25 rounds from semi-automatic firearm. The shooting occurred immediately after Johnson's cousin and Flores got into a fistfight.
Upon being convicted in December 2011, Johnson -- who asserts he's innocent -- yelled at jurors and called them racist. He then fired his attorney.
His sentencing was delayed for 18 months while his new attorney put together a motion for a new trial.
