LIVERMORE -- Lawrence Livermore National Security, a private consortium that manages the Livermore National Lab, is kicking off its annual Community Gift Program, awarding $100,000 to local nonprofits for 2013.

The Community Gift Program issues grants from $1,000 to $20,000 to organizations addressing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education, community service and philanthropic needs in communities with large populations of Livermore lab employees.

California nonprofit educational institutions, 501(c)(3) organizations and government agencies in Alameda, Contra Costa and San Joaquin counties are eligible to apply. All interested parties must submit a gift application to Lawrence Livermore National Security by Aug. 29. Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their proposals by Oct. 31.
