MARTINEZ -- Closing arguments in the Richmond High School gang rape trial are scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday this week.

The prosecution and both defense attorneys rested Monday in the case against 20-year-old Marcelles Peter and 22-year-old Jose Montano, who each face life if convicted as charged in the Oct. 24, 2009, attack on a 16-year-old girl on the Richmond High campus during a homecoming dance.

Two former co-defendants have been convicted of gang rape in the case. Another two are awaiting trial on lesser sexual assault charges.

Peter's attorney called no witnesses to the stand. Montano's attorney called one, a forensic pathologist who testified for less than a half-hour about the victim's medical records.

The attorneys will give closing arguments to Peter's jury on Wednesday, and to Montano's on Thursday.

The juries will deliberate separately beginning sometime next week, after the conclusion of jury instructions.
