WALNUT CREEK -- Mayor Kristina Lawson said Tuesday that she is "seriously considering" running for retiring Rep. George Miller's seat in November.
State Sen. Mark DeSaulnier, D-Concord, has already announced his intention to run for the 11th Congressional district seat that will be vacated by Miller, who announced Monday he will not seek re-election to the seat he has held for 40 years.
Lawson, in her first term, was elected to the City Council in 2010. In December, she was appointed mayor. She is up for re-election in November.
A land use attorney, Lawson is a partner in the San Francisco law firm Manatt, Phelps and Phillips. She lives in Walnut Creek with her husband and two young children.
