The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office is offering sandbags to residents of the county's unincorporated areas to prepare for anticipated heavy rains over the weekend. Residents must provide their own shovel and transportation, Sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee said. The sandbags are available around the clock, at the following locations:

  • West County Detention Facility, 5555 Giant Hwy, Richmond. The sand and bags are in a container at the sand cradle on the south side of the facility's public parking area.

  • Ambrose Park and Recreation Center, 3105 Willow Pass Road, Bay Point. The sand and bags are in a container at the sand cradle on the west side of the parking lot next to a tree approximately three-quarters of the way to the playing fields.

  • Contra Costa County Fairgrounds, 1201 West 10th Street, Antioch. Entrance is off 10th Street.

  • Byron Airport, 500 Eagle Court, Byron. The sand and bags are in a plastic bin next to the flagpole across from the main administration portable building.

  • Pacheco, Waterbird Way, across from the County gas pumps. The sand and bags are in a container at the sand cradle.
