ANTIOCH -- Fire engulfed a 2-story house and threatened to spread to a neighboring home before 18 firefighters extinguished the blaze Monday night.
Neighbors reported the fire on the 5100 block of Furlong Way at about 9:45 p.m. Monday. Flames were erupting from both the first and second stories of the 22-year-old suburban house when firefighters arrived, said Fire Marshal Lewis Broschard of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District.
The fire was so intense that it threatened a neighboring house, but it was under control and knocked down at 10:24 p.m., Broschard said. No one was injured. The residents did not appear to be home at the time, which could indicate why it spread so quickly and undetected before neighbors spooted the flames, Broschard said.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
