LIVERMORE -- At Monday's city council meeting, Mayor John Marchand announced the appointment of acting City Attorney Jason Alcala to the permanent position of city attorney, effective immediately.
Described as a skilled municipal law expert with extensive experience in land use issues, Alcala was first employed in Livermore as assistant city attorney in 2004 and was promoted to senior assistant attorney in 2011. He served as the Planning Commission's primary legal counsel, where he worked on projects such as the downtown First Street streetscape improvements, the Livermore Premium Outlets infrastructure, and the State Route 84/Isabel Avenue interchange.
Alcala, who lives in Tracy with his wife Tiffanie Heben, daughter Alexandra, and son Jason Jr., served as acting city attorney since July, after the retirement of John Pomidor. He will make an annual salary of $190,000, with a contract to continue indefinitely.
