CONTRA COSTA COUNTY -- Health officials announced another flu-related death in Contra Costa County on Wednesday, bringing the total number of deaths up to seven since December.
The woman, who as not been identified, was in her 40s. Officials did not specify if the woman had any underlying health problems.
Kate Fowlie, spokeswoman for the Contra Costa County Health Department, did say the agency was notified of the flu-related death last week, and that the woman had died within the last month.
It was unknown if the woman had been vaccinated.
The last person to have reportedly died with flu-related symptoms in Contra Costa County was a man in his 50s. That death was reported on Feb. 12.
Contra Costa County leads the East Bay in flu-related deaths, and is tied with Sonoma County with having reported the second highest number of flu-related deaths to date.
Only Santa Clara County has reported a higher number, with 14.
