PITTSBURG -- Two basketball games on Saturday will raise money to support a scholarship named for a Pittsburg High senior who drowned during a senior class trip to Lake Berryessa in 2001.

The fifth annual fundraiser for the Greg Ashford Memorial Fund Scholarship will raise money to fund scholarships for two Pittsburg High graduating seniors.

The event begins at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Pittsburg High School gymnasium, 1750 Harbor St. The first game features the East County All-Stars vs. the Pittsburg/925 All-Stars. Two teams made up of basketball alumni from Pittsburg High will play in the 5 p.m. game.

During halftime, several military veterans who attended Pittsburg High will be honored along with Sheetal Pratap, who will be graduating in May from the University of California at Berkeley and is first recipient of the scholarship.

To date, the scholarship fund has raised more than $14,000 and provided 12 scholarships.

Admission is $10 and $5 for seniors. Kids 10 years and under are free. Tickets will be sold at the door. Donations to the scholarship fund can also be made via PayPal using the email address of gregashfordfund@gmail.com For more information, call 925-473-2390.
