California High School junior righthander Mike Podany threw a perfect game Friday in the host Grizzlies' 3-0 victory over De La Salle.

The 5-foot-8, 165-pound Podany had only four 3-ball counts in his pitching gem, and two were in the first inning of this East Bay Athletic League baseball game. He struck out two in his masterpiece.

"He had great control. He used all of his pitches. Honestly, everybody in the field had to make a play, and everybody made them," California coach Chad Ross said.

Cameron Santos scored in the first inning on a passed ball for the Grizzlies (7-0, 1-0 EBAL), and teammate AJ Velasquez led off the fourth inning with a home run to center field. Trent Kravitz scored the final run of the game on a fielder's choice in the fourth.

With the loss, De La Salle falls to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the EBAL.
