PLEASANT HILL -- John F. Kennedy University will host an event Monday to commemorate the accomplishments of César Chávez, and the public is welcome to attend.

The event will feature Anthony Chávez, César Chávez's grandson and a Coro Fellows intern at JFK University assisting with its 2014 initiative to become a "Hispanic Serving Institution," with a goal of at least 25 percent Hispanic enrollment by 2016.

The Conmemoración event will not only honor the elder Chávez's birthday (3/31/27), but it comes on the heels of the release of the motion picture "Cesar Chavez," set to open in theaters on March 28.

Also speaking at the event will be Johnny Huang, president of the Contra Costa Hispanic Business Chamber; California Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla; and Ezra C. Garrett, a PG&E vice president, executive director of The PG&E Corporation Foundation and a board member of the Latino Community Foundation.

To attend, RSVP to Wendy at wlopez@jfku.edu or call 925-969-3527.
