DISCOVERY BAY -- A new sign program aimed at improving waterfront safety has been put in place for residents here.
The signs will provide easy address identification and location of residences from the waterfront, said Supervisor Mary Nejedly Piepho of Discovery Bay, who is offering the program.
"They will not only make it easier to find our friends and neighbors dock side but the signs can also be an important factor in response time for a fire boat or sheriff's patrol vessel responding by water in an emergency," Piepho said.
The signs are $50 to cover production. Orders must be placed to the town's Community Services District offices by May 16. Signs will be available for pick up at the district office about four weeks after the final order is submitted.
Any left over funds will be contributed to the Discovery Bay Community Center. Another opportunity to order signs will be offered in the early fall of 2014.
Piepho said her office is working to bring a similar program to Bethel Island residents in the near future.
