RICHMOND -- The work of more than 300 middle and high school students in the West Contra Costa school district is on display through April 30 at the Richmond Art Center.

The center will host a reception and awards event from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at 2540 Barrett Ave. to celebrate the student artists, who have created works of photography, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, collage, painting and drawing. For many of the students, the 49th annual district art show provides their first opportunity to display their work in a professional gallery.

The center is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. More information is available by calling 510-620-6772 or by visiting www.therac.org.
