SAN RAMON -- When you love tools and trucks as much as 5-year-old Max Nash, there's only one place for your birthday party.

The San Ramon boy celebrated on Saturday with a hard-hats-required party in the middle of a hardware store -- at Home Depot in San Ramon. The party was the brainchild of his mom, Leslie Nash.

"He's very excited." she said beforehand. "Anything with cars, trucks or construction ...."

Nash said she got the idea from the blog of a Florida woman, who had done the same thing for her son. Max's mom got in touch with the store and says she was amazed at how accommodating they were.

"They asked, 'Are you a customer?' " she said.

When she told them she was, the party planning began. The party was held in the store's training room, where a special project for the guests was set up. The kids all received carpenters' aprons to round out their hard-hat looks and a tour of the store. There was no charge for the special event.
