A woman who died in a car crash earlier this month on Interstate 680 at Sycamore Valley Road has been identified as 18-year-old Maggie Daly from Alamo.

A nationally recognized golfer who graduated from San Ramon Valley High School in 2013, Daly was riding in an SUV that collided about 10:05 p.m. April 9 with a flatbed truck on southbound I-680, according to the California Highway Patrol.

According to Officer Steve Creel, the 35-year-old driver of the SUV tried to pass the truck, but misjudged the distance between the two vehicles, and the right side of the SUV slammed into the flatbed truck.

The driver was uninjured, but Daly was taken to John Muir Medical Center and died April 11.

Daly was a standout golfer consistently praised for her maturity, skill and ability to focus on the game. Last fall, she enrolled in Santa Barbara Community College, where she led her team to victory at the California Community College Association Women's Golf State Championships, coach Chuck Melendez said.

"Maggie was a real good young lady, who was well-liked by everybody on the team and a great player," Melendez said. "She had this ability to strike the ball solid and be accurate. She will be sorely missed."

Daly is survived by parents Gene and Kathy Daly, of Alamo, and large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
