MARTINEZ -- Murder charges were filed Monday against an Oakley man who prosecutors say stabbed his roommate 37 times.
Emanuel Jimmy Ramirez, also charged with knife, torture and three strikes enhancements, is being held in lieu of $3 million bond, said Contra Costa deputy district attorney Mary Knox. He is expected to make his first court appearance Tuesday morning.
Ramirez is suspected of killing Roy Amador just before 4 p.m. Thursday, inside the Amador Avenue residence the two men shared. Paramedics attempted to revive Amador before declaring him dead at the scene. Ramirez turned himself in at the Oakley Police Department shortly after the incident.
Investigators are unsure what started the fight that resulted in Oakley's second homicide of the year.
